Maria is out of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo at the quarter-final stage after lost to No.8 seed Samantha Stosur of Australia. Maria lost 4-6 6-7 in an hour and 53 minutes.
In the first set, Maria got the first break of serve to lead 4-3 but lost 3 straight games as Stosur won the first set 6-4. Maria broke early in the second set but let it slip as Stosur built a 5-3 lead but Maria won eight straight points to level the set. The set was to be decided by a tie-break which Stosur won 12-10.
Maria will now head to Beijing to play the China Open which begins on Saturday.
